6.9 26-038310:45 A.M.- Consideration of Legislative Position Letters on: (A) AB 2494 (Rogers) - State Forests: Forest Management; and (B) AB 2216 (Aguiar-Curry)
I support the County’s proposed position on AB 2216 and I want to highlight how this bill connects to a larger issue that has come up repeatedly in this chamber, and that is Lake County’s need for regional recognition within state policy. The County is absolutely correct to insist that Lake County be explicitly included in AB 2216.
Our geography, our economic conditions, and our wildfire‑driven land‑use constraints make us fundamentally different from the coastal and metropolitan counties that often dominate statewide planning. When legislation excludes us, even unintentionally, it reinforces the structural barriers that have kept Lake County from accessing the same level of state investment that other regions receive.
I also want to acknowledge the public comment submitted by the InterTribal Sinkyone Wilderness Council. Their involvement underscores something essential: any regional framework that includes Lake County must be built in partnership with Tribal governments. Their ecological and cultural expertise is not an add‑on — it is central to responsible land stewardship. Please support AB 2216 on our behalf only if it is amended to include Lake County.
