To the Lake County Board of Supervisors:

Subject: Support for Lake County’s Participation in Sonoma Clean Power (SCP)

    Dear Supervisors,

I strongly support Lake County joining Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) through Community Choice Aggregation (CCA). This step would give Lake County residents and businesses access to locally controlled, customer-focused energy services—while retaining choice and fostering local economic and environmental benefits.

SCP has a proven record of success since its founding. It has consistently provided competitive—often lower—rates than PG&E, while maintaining reliability and excellent customer service. SCP’s focus on innovation and sustainability has resulted in a wide range of programs that promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation, benefitting both customers and the environment.

Participation in SCP would allow Lake County to have a seat at the table in the governance of this regional public agency. This ensures local input into decisions that affect our community’s energy future. Importantly, customers would retain freedom of choice—anyone who prefers to remain with PG&E could easily opt out.

Furthermore, this partnership would open doors for local energy projects developed right here in Lake County. Locally produced renewable energy and efficiency initiatives could create jobs, enhance resilience, and keep more energy dollars circulating within our community.

While PG&E would continue to own and maintain the transmission and distribution infrastructure, the ability to choose who procures our power is a vital step toward a cleaner, more locally responsive energy system.

For all these reasons, I urge the Board of Supervisors to support Lake County’s participation in Sonoma Clean Power. It is a forward-thinking decision that aligns with our shared goals of local empowerment, economic vitality, and environmental stewardship.

Thank you for your consideration and your continued service to our community.

    Sincerely,
    Denise Rushing
    Upper Lake
