I comment on this item as someone who has worked on many political campaigns in this County over the past several years. My intent is to encourage the Board of Supervisors to support improvements in the County Registrar’s operation.
Technological tools provide the biggest payoffs in efficiency at the lowest cost. There are tools available to speed processes that will allow the ROV to provide near real-time updates to the public and to candidates in such areas as new registrations, updates to current registration data, daily updates on votes received and ballots that need to be cured. Providing online tools for voter look ups, etc., at voting sites would also lead to shorter lines and lessen processing time. I am aware of other counties (even those the size of Lake) that are already utilizing such technology, which provides great savings in personnel time in both input and answering a myriad of telephone queries. I urge the ROV to reach out to other counties to understand what tools they are using that are working well for them.
Other items that could be considered: Voter registration at the high schools, a ROV presence at the major community events in all locations around the County. In addition, the ROV could hold some listening sessions around the county to get input from the public.
