We are a nation that has been, and is, built on diversity. Yes, democracy can be messy, but because many and varied conversations take place, great results happen. Innovation, sharing, and vitality thrive. Thank you for recognizing and appreciating this basic tenet of who we are, of what our Constitution is. Let's encourage dialogue and solidify multicultural respect and identity. Please go forward with this.
Thank you for this opportunity to offer appreciation to the Lake County Board of Supervisors for designating April as Celebrate Diversity Month. At a time when dangerous rhetoric and blatant disinformation continues to deeply divide Americans and embolden harmful and painful actions by citizens and the federal government, taking this powerful local stance of understanding the value we each hold in our community and the right each of us has to be here and be treated with dignity and respect, is crucial to our continuing as a 'democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people.' As always, it is my hope that the BOS will continue to move beyond the words of this proclamation and take active steps to ensure a Lake County where everyone is safe, valued, and respected. Thank you for celebrating our diversity rather than promoting divisiveness.
I fully support this proclamation.
