Monica Rosenthal, as a signatory of a letter on a December 3, 2024 letter from the Community Action Project, showing that she has demonstrated a clear alignment with a group actively advocating for stricter and often extreme regulations and limitations on cannabis cultivation and sales in Lake County. The letter expresses out-of-the-mainstream concerns about various aspects of the current cannabis ordinance and permitting process, including issues related to permitting, density, set-backs and retail sales. These views suggest a pre-disposition towards unreasonably restricting cannabis businesses. This could lead to concerns that she would not be able to approach cannabis-related land use and permitting decisions as a planning commissioner with an open mind, potentially biasing her decisions against cannabis businesses. Please find a more fair minded person for the position.

In this letter from the Community Action Project (CAP), https://tax.lakecountyca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/13058/CAP-COTF-121624 Monica Rosenthal is a signatory. I do not know what the official mission statement of CAP is, but their past actions seem to indicate that they were formed to oppose cannabis and the cannabis ordinance. Their actions have also derailed the Cannabis Task Force Ordinance with bringing up issues that have been decided a long time ago - such as Farmland Protection.

I don't believe someone who is opposed to the work of the Task Force can serve objectively on the Planning Commission that approves cannabis projects. I would say the same if it were in any other industry.

If possible, it would be good to find more balance as the two proposed appointees today are both in the wine grape industry and members of the Farm Bureau. With District 1 having a diverse economy and makeup, maybe there are other candidates.
