The remark by @Merriman Donald on February 3, 2025, at 5:43pm (6.8 25-1061:00 P.M.) regarding the Kelseyville name change showcases the very racism we must confront. Suggesting Indigenous board members should recuse themselves if they refuse to “vote with the people” is blatantly prejudiced, demanding that they either silence their heritage or betray their own history.
Also cutting off the official platform for public input on this issue only compounds the harm, blocking essential community voices and scrutiny. We deserve transparency, not gatekeeping. Lake County must do better—by actively dismantling racist attitudes and ensuring that all residents, especially those historically marginalized, can speak up and be heard. I couldn't leave my comment there, so I am placing it here for BOS and public consideration.
