Supervisor Simon's comments and votes against the will of the people he supposedly represents has been an embarrassment to all of Lake County and made us the laughing stock of the State! He has done nothing to be deserving of this proclamation. I guess in this day and age of everyone gets a trophy for participation, that's all he's worthy of.
As Supervisor Simon vacates his position representing District 1, it is essential to reflect on the significant disappointments of his tenure, particularly in his handling of the Kelseyville name change issue. Throughout this process, his actions undermined the integrity of the Board of Supervisors and the community's trust.
Despite promising to step down from his role as tribal leader to avoid a conflict of interest, he chose to maintain both positions, creating an undeniable conflict between his duties as Supervisor and his responsibilities as a tribal leader - raising serious questions about his ability to make impartial decisions and undermining his credibility.
Throughout the name-change debate, Supervisor Simon displayed profoundly unprofessional behavior. He dismissed the legitimate concerns of the broader community, resorting to name-calling and labeling his constituents as racist. This kind of disrespectful conduct harmed public discourse and created unnecessary divisions. He perpetuated an "us versus them" mentality, fostering hostility and eliminating an opportunity for unity and dialogue. Such behavior from an elected official is inappropriate and wholly unacceptable.
The most egregious aspect of Supervisor Simon's conduct was his refusal to listen to the overwhelming voice of his constituents. Despite more than 70% of the community opposing the name change, he voted in favor of it, driven by a racially charged, self-serving agenda. This decision was not based on thoughtful, fair representation but rather on a predetermined stance that ignored the clearly expressed will of the community. This action starkly contrasts his once-espoused principles—that "community is more important than government." His actions flagrantly disregarded the overwhelming community opposition in favor of his agenda.
Supervisor Simon repeatedly refused to engage with concerned community members, ignoring emails and failing to respond to requests for dialogue. His unwillingness to listen to his community is an alarming failure of leadership. As an elected official and a tribal leader, he chose to turn his back on those who disagreed with him. This lack of engagement demonstrated a profound disrespect for the democratic process.
The community deserves a leader who will prioritize unity and professionalism. Supervisor Simon's lack of leadership serves as a reminder of the importance of true public service and the responsibility elected officials have to their communities.
Moke Simon has had his enormous ego stroked time and time again despite the fact that he has not been a beneficial asset to his district. He catered to those who benefited him, personally, over the last 8 years. Good riddance to a professional victim. The name “Moke” is in the official Scrabble dictionary. It means Jackass.
Moke Simon has called the citizens of Lake County racist. Not just once, but numerous times. He is self serving and has not represented all of the people in Lake County. He is NOT deserving of this Proclamation.
Both the Supervisor went against the constitution. Also Kelseyville is not Derogatory or slang it IS a name. I SERVED the United States of America. Not the sovereign Nation.
Supervisor Moke Simons time as supervisor has been an embarrassment to this county.
He does not represent the people as a whole and, he cherry picks which of his constituents he chooses to represent. This has been absolutely made apparent in the manner in which handled the measure U vote. 70% of county voters Opposed. Moke did vote in accordance with the will of Lake County Voters. He promised to resign from his tribal council while on the board and he never kept his promise to do so. This created a huge conflict of interest which was also made evident with his vote to support the Kelseyville name change. His poor leadership actions did not reflect quality representation for Lake county constituents and has lead to further community division. He has been unable to uphold his constitutional Oath to the American People and has completely disrespected our republican process as described in article 4 section 4 of the US constitution! I strongly oppose this Proclamation.
