Please reduce pre-sale taxes by at least 50%. Support our local farmers so that they can better contribute to local economic growth!

Case in point: Magic Meadows Farm regenerative farming practices include carbon sequestration and fire risk reduction to sustain the land's health for generations to come. Vegetables and flowers are planted with cannabis in synergistic relationship. Natural pest control methods are employed.

She co-initiated the regenerative farming guild as a collaborative knowledge resource. She works to support the local economy just as she supported the community as Cobb school PTO president. She is committed to community development like many of her colleagues.

Yet taxes before sale are a hardship. No other business is taxed like cannabis. Farmers, are left with product they must sell below cost, or not sell at all. Many have decided to take a year off and are looking at other ways to sustain their families and farms.

    They need relief to survive!

To remain competitive, our local cultivation tax must be similar to other production regions. This immediate relief is necessary to sustain an emerging industry while we work on a permanent amendment. We appreciate the time put into the local tax relief so that we can continue to contribute to the community and create jobs.

Still opposed to tax cuts for an industry that does not provide a viable food source or commodity. With talks of food shortages, skyrocketing prices and financial hardships all around, it would help more people to give 50% of property taxes for relief.
If cannabis growers are relying on the country to decrease the tax burden in order to plant this year, it's another example of the industry's instability and lack of preparation for hardships.

Many residents are suffering from economic hardships due to Covid and yearly wildfires causing more to become homeless in the last several years. We wonder why Lake county would propose an agenda item 6.8 of the Cannabis Tax Reform that would give only breaks to questionable business practices of Cannabis operations with poor business models but not to the normal businesses and hardworking county residents. For example, many folks really need a break on property taxes and penalties when they have been under economic duress from Covid and wildfires causing many more to become homeless. It does not make sense to start with the Cannabis Business Tax relief when the county should focus primarily on the majority of hard-working residents making an honest living!

And, Is it true the Tax Collector's office has no mechanism for collecting delinquent cannabis taxes???
